Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
(SEND)
We aim to:
- Embrace the fact that every child is different, and, therefore, the educational needs of every child are different.
- Create an environment that meets the special educational needs of each child
- Ensure that the special educational needs of children are identified and provided for.
- Identify the roles and responsibilities of staff and governors in providing for children’s special educational needs.
- Enable all children to have full access to all elements of the school curriculum.
- Ensure that parents/carers are able to support their child’s education and development.
- Ensure that our children have an input in this process.
- Enable every pupil to experience success.
All schools are supported to be as inclusive as possible, with the needs of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities being met in a mainstream setting wherever possible. Schools working under the Hampshire Local Authority (LA) have a similar approach to meeting the needs of children with Special Educational Needs and are supported by the LA to ensure that all children, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school.
Here at Petersgate Infant School, where appropriate, we offer a ‘Team Around the Child’ approach in meeting your child’s needs. This approach focuses on the targets laid out within an EHCP or SEND support document and the progress the child has made to meet these targets through a multi-layered approach of support.
